Reactive Dog Training

Help for reactive dogs on the Sunshine Coast

Walks shouldn't feel like a battle. If your dog barks, lunges or growls at other dogs, people or the world in general, there is a way forward — and it starts with understanding.

What does reactivity look like?

Reactivity is an overreaction to everyday things — other dogs, strangers, bikes, cars, or even sounds. It can look different from dog to dog:

  • Barking, lunging or growling at other dogs on walks
  • Pulling desperately towards — or away from — a trigger
  • Freezing, cowering or shutting down in new situations
  • Barking at people, dogs or noises at home or in the yard
  • Seemingly calm one moment, then exploding the next

Can a reactive dog get better?

Yes — genuinely. Reactivity is usually rooted in fear, frustration, over-arousal or a breakdown in communication between you and your dog. It is not a life sentence, and it is not a sign that you've failed.

The key is understanding why your dog reacts. When you learn to read your dog's body language, manage their state of mind, and communicate clearly, the reactions soften — and walks become something you both enjoy again.

Understanding changes everything.

How Ceci Helps

Real change, built on solid foundations

Observe & assess

Ceci comes to you and observes your dog in their real environment — where the behaviour actually happens. You'll learn what's driving the reactions, not just how to suppress them.

Hands-on training from session one

Your first session is three hours of real work — dog psychology, body language, communication, and practical training with you and your dog. You'll leave with a plan and the skills to start changing things straight away.

Guided support as you progress

A second session 3–4 days later cements the foundations, and further sessions guide you as you grow into the calm, confident leader your dog needs.

Common questions about reactive dogs

How do you train a reactive dog?

Lasting change comes from addressing the cause, not just the symptom. Ceci teaches you to understand your dog's state of mind, read their body language, and communicate in a way your dog naturally understands — so the need to react fades, rather than being managed forever.

Is my dog aggressive, or just reactive?

Most reactive dogs are not truly aggressive — they're overwhelmed, fearful or frustrated, and their reaction is how they cope. In your first session Ceci will assess your dog and give you an honest picture of what's going on and what can change.

How long does it take to see improvement?

Many owners see meaningful shifts within the first two foundation sessions, because they finally understand their dog. Deeper, lasting change builds over weeks of consistent practice — and Ceci guides you through it.

Do you come to us?

Yes. Ceci works in your home and neighbourhood across the Sunshine Coast & Surroundings — the places where your dog's reactions actually happen.
